May 27th of this year, one of my darling clients casually shared with me that she didn't think she had a green thumb, and that all she could ever grow was AVOCADO SEEDS! She said she had a kitchen window full of avocado mini trees! She had no idea just how long I'd been soaking plastic cups and glass baby food jars of avocado seed (since Jan 2015 and nothing!) in water, with absolutely no luck! Also, she really had no clue as to the countless people around the globe (via my @houseplantdiary IG account lol) who were/are at this very moment wanting to know HOW TO GET AN AVOCADO SEED TO SPROUT...I tried organic and non-organic seeds, still nothing. I asked her to send me a picture of her avocado plants. She sent me a pic the very next day, I was blown away. She had an avocado tree forest (below) right there in that kitchen window. I gagged... I wasn't ready for what I saw. She was just so casual about this phenomenon lol. You know I had to have the secret. She told me that all she ever does is:
1) wipe seed clean after use. 2) toss the seeds into some dirt in a big bucket and water when she remembers. 3) Enjoy watching them grow! So, I immediately tossed out my many floaters and started saving new seeds once again. Once I had gathered about 5 seeds, I tossed them into a medium sized pot of dirt and put them in my backyard. The
rain, sun and Mother Nature took good care of them. I noticed the first hint of growth in about 3 weeks, I was ecstatic! Currently, from May 27th until today...I have 3 baby avocado trees. I'm not really growing these n hopes of fruit. Our climate is just not balanced or long enough to get any hoes up. I'll be more than grateful to still have them growing strong and healthy this time next summer ;-))
