The use of aromatherapy has been around for over 10,000 years. The ancient Khamites (Egyptians) used plants and their aromatic oils for healing, ceremony and beautification practices. Our ancestor, physician and mathematician Imhotep recommended essential oils for baths, massage and for use during the practice of embalming their deceased. Nefertem, deity of medicine and healing also incorporated the art of aromatherapy in his practice.
In 1992, I embarked on a journey of plant-based product research and development . As an earth spirit, I studied various ancient cultures' ways and beautification practices. I looked into herbology, essential oils, the art of aromatherapy, and the science of natural hair and body care product development. I attribute the natural essence of my innate knowledge of plants to the awareness of my ancestors. I started creating my own natural product line of hair care formulas, which I called Ancient Blends~spiritual beautification and grounding tools disguised as cosmetics.
As I began creating these elixirs in my kitchen, I just naturally tuned into the spirit of the plants. A sense of calm and relaxed emotions would naturally start to envelop me. I took notice of how I started relating to the oils which definitely seemed to enhanced my focus, attention and my memory. I became instantly inspired to create a more sacred space around me for balance. Before I start to create my blends, I would light a white or orange candle according to the energy I wish to work with in that moment. I burn white sage to cleanse and purify my space of any unwanted energies. Negative and positive energy are also ingredients which should be considered when creating. I add the vibration of sound while creating my blends...I like to play Tibetan singing bowls, the chimes help to charge the space with positive vibrations.
My space naturally became inundated with the magical scents of all of the different plants, flowers, herbs, essential oils and product scents. When clients and customers walk into my space from being out in the world, they can sense a cleansing, relaxing, spiritually uplifting, soothing shift. Before I shampoo my clients' hair, I place a few drops of eucalyptus and basil essential oils to the drain area to help ease sinusitis and any upper respiratory challenges they might have. When my clients and customers apply these products to their hair and bodies, they are essentially activating the powerful healing properties of plant, herbs and flower on a subtle level for their own well-being.
As I groom my clients hair, applying my oils and massaging their scalps; I practice taking deep quiet breaths. This is one of the ways I rejuvenate myself. I also believe that the aromatic essence of these products, with daily personal use gives my skin its youthful appearance. I also carry aromatic spritzers and little samples of my body butters inside my handbag to apply to my hands and neck. I spray them in public bathrooms, subways and other places where I may need the protection and support. When I am faced with a situation I feel could be emotionally challenging, I stop and spritz my auric field. I moisturize my hands, then inhale deeply; allowing the plants to work their magic.
I use aromatherapy throughout my day as a very key tool to helping me manage my stress, my health and well being. I believe that essential oils are the Mother Natures gifts, the powerful souls of her plants. Aromatic oils come from the most vital parts of plants, herbs and scented flowers. They possess unique properties for mind, body and spirit healing.
